Lisa also said that she would contact the representative in CT.

I was able to place an order for my car, however, there was a problem with the order banks and ordering has been put on hold. Well, at least according to the dealer. They were willing to place my order and take a deposit, but not discuss pricing until a later time. At first I agreed, but after thinking it over, I went back in, got my money back, and told them to call me when they wanted to talk pricing. I'll be the first to admit that I almost made a HUGE mistake (and that my excitement clouded my judgement), but I was able to think about it and then get my deposit back. The deposit would have been refundable if we could not agree on a price, but I wasn't willing to take that risk. The ball is in their court. I called another dealer in NH(where I am from originally) and I'll see what they come up with.

I would have had my order, but I may have gotten screwed in the price.

Tip: DO NOT put a deposit on an ST without getting a contract with pricing. Don't make a similar mistake.

To add to what Dan said, If a dealer won't be up front with you then you don't want to be dealing with them at all. Who knows what other shenanigans they will play with you later on.

They know what the price is and you know what they are making, make them deal.

This will be my first time reserving a car prior to its release. What if, for example, I put down a deposit but something happens that prevents me from actually going through the purchase? Am I just out the deposit? (Please excuse the noob question.)

I had a clause put into the contract that said I would be refunded my deposit if I did not take delivery of the car. Work out a similar deal.

I didn't have a problem with that, but what if we couldn't agree on a price at a later date? I am now waiting for my refund and then have to go order another car and wait even longer. The salesman told me afterward that it wouldn't have exceeded MSRP, but why couldn't they have written that down? Oh well, moving on.

I'm in an identical situation dem. I have a deposit in and an order placed, but no offer on the table from the dealer. They didn't feel like they could put anything on paper at this time. This is a dealer that I've done business with in the past, and the salesman that I'm working with has given me her word that they won't make me regret the order. But not knowing what the car is going to cost me is really frustrating me big time.. I have loyalty to them, but they are apparently not returning that loyalty. Every second I think about the situation I am closer to calling them up and threatening to cancel.

The only thing keeping me there is I have guarantee of full refund on deposit at any time.

I'm surpirsed at how various the pricing has been thus far from those who have already reserved their ST. I've negotiated $26,500 but I'm stuck. I'm really hoping I can use the College Graduate Program, considering the ST in ineligible for the X-plan. This car will be my happy grad school graduation gift.

I think everyone that is having issues ordering the car is because the dealers really don't know much at all. The dealers were just simply not prepared for orders. Ford dropped the ball basically.

I would call and cancel immediately or demand that they work with you on the price. What is there to say that they don't charge you more than MSRP? I know you probably don't want to hear that, but I almost made that mistake. It's stupid. They are waiting to see what other dealers are getting, then they will make an offer that best suits their needs. They are not your friends. Call, cancel, and get your refund back. Go to someone else who will give you an offer. That's what I am doing, even if it takes me longer to get the car. I wouldn't want anyone to make the same mistake I almost did.

Agreed. You should definitely have a signed contract price that says exactly what you are going to pay for the car signed by you and your sales representative before the car is ordered or any deposit is given. Otherwise, once the car arrives they know they hold all the cards and they know you are going to buy it. And if you don't someone else will, likely above sticker price. So they may decide to charge you all kinds of fees that were not disclosed initially.

If they don't want to discuss pricing walk away, other dealers will be more than happy to lock in an MSRP or near MSRP sale, especially in this economy.

And guess why they dealers don't know much at all? It's because many of them chose not to do their research on a car that they should have!

I finalized my order with my local dealer today, and after I already attempted to educate them on the process on the 1st by sending links to Ford's official website, they told me they were now VERY well versed on the new ordering process for the ST after Ford Corporate got in touch with them and assured me my order was being handled appropriately

Apparently after sending emails to our Pacific Northwest Ford Rep and posting my ordering concerns to Ford's offical ST FaceBook page, my dealer was contacted and "educated" on the preorder process. My salesperson even said Ford Corporate mentioned my name as the person that had the complaint and the Inventory Manager for their dealership couldn't understand why they got the reaming they did.

In the end, I could really care less, as I successfully ordered the car I wanted at the price I was willing to pay.
