For those who think all seasons HAVE to be a compromise, you might want to read this.

The Michelin folks emphasized that these are considered 3 season tires they are meant to extend the summer driving season deeper into the fall or winter in areas that get a lot of snow but once there is deep snow, its best to switch to full winter tires.

I'm leaning toward using the pilot sport as3 as my summer replacements so my winters can go on later and come off earlier hopefully giving me more seasons before wearing out.

I think Michelin is going to sell a LOT of AS/3's. That is some fantastic performance for an all season tire.

You will just have to see how they actually perform on the ST. Ratings and reviews are one thing but it may not work out well on our ST. Certainly sounds like an improvement over previous all season performance tires.

I meant to post that I use the 17 inch Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S on the Volvo. Not the best on handling but then we dont push the Volvo real hard because it doesnt really respond well to hard cornering or aggressive driving. I would say the Exalto is not Michelins best tire and would not use on the ST for sure.

After doing some Google research the last couple days, I will most likely be going with the Goodyear F1 A/S.

They seem to be the most winter-oriented of the ultra-high performance all seasons, albeit not as much a ragged-edge 3 season tire like the Michelins and Bridgestones, but more performance-oriented than the Continentals.

I have to drive from south west Illinois to eastern South Dakota for the holidays, so I will probably experience a full-spectrum of climate changes on the way, to include moderate snowfall. We got extremely lucky last Thanksgiving that the temps stayed in the upper 70s on the drive there and back. Probably won't be as lucky over Christmas break.

I really am curious between these Goodyears and the AS3's by Michelin in snow. The Goodyears look like they would handle snow better but what do I know?

Michelin doesn't show an improvement over the as plus for winter snow. I would conclude you're probably right about that. Also Michelin calls them a 3 season tire and still recommends switching to winters in areas that get a lot of snow. They just won't strand you in a early fall late sprint cold snap or storm.

Agreed. Goodyear does seem to emphasize these as snow/ice capable.
