Exclamation RMM 1-2 Bang to be addressed by FoMoCo

We got the inside scoop on the RMM for ya here at ST Nation.

There is a bit of a story with a resolution but the story is worth repeating.

Many of us wondered how Ford never experienced the 1-2 bang during development and testing. Turns out, they didn't. One of the engineers discovered it for themselves during testing and called up their ST counter part in Europe who had no idea what he was talking about.

When the two met up, the American engineer took the wheel of the ST with the European engineer along for the ride to demonstrate the 1-2 bang. The European engineer cringed and exclaimed "why would you do that" after the bang was produced.

So here is the rub. There hasn't been one single complaint from a European ST owner re the 1-2 bang! There is no difference in the mounts between continents, they just don't experience it because of the way they shift. Additionally, they aren't experiencing the brake dust issues ("excessive") that we do.

Apparently, we are a bunch of Neanderthals here in NA!

For plans to issue a TSB to address the issue. The cars will be fitted with the E Focus RMM and the upper motor mounts will also be replaced.

So, the fix is on the way for those of you who want the OEM solution to the problem

Damn. What if I already have the E-Focus mount installed! Think I'll be able to just get the upper mount?

We will have to see how this sorts out. Maybe you can get a refund on your E mount.

This would explain why I never feel that bang. I do think the mount is pretty soft though and would probably still go in for the TSB just to tighten things up.

OK, I could possibly be persuaded that they shift more gently. But what about the excessive, crashing wheel hop that is also greatly improved with a stiffer mount? Do Europeans never step on the gas hard enough for that to occur? Also, my car would exhibit the bang without shifting at all, if I just hit a mild pot hole while accelerating normally. Do they not have any pot holes (or any sort of sharp bumps) in Europe? I guess I'm saying that this explanation for having a wimpy rubber band as a substitute for a robust engine mount doesn't fully make sense to me.

They have used the same RMM on the RS without issue. And yes, it was mentioned that they have better roads than we do.

Chad will post a link to the video of the Q&A When he gets home so you can hear it for yourself.

So if I understand this correctly, Ford is going to "recall" current ST's to install/use CP-E motor mounts for FREE?! What am I missing, cause that seems waaaaaaaay to good to be true!

No, not the CP-E mount from the sounds of it, sounds more like the electric focus mount which isn't as extreme as the CPE stage 2, but they may also be planning on changing the upper mount which would help tighten the power train movement even more.

I am still waiting to see what the fix is and when it's available, otherwise I would put the mount I already have on the car.
